ACGME:

Not all fellowship training programs and "board certifications" are equal.  The Accreditation Council of Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) is the responsible for setting and maintaining the standard of medical training in the United States.

It is often difficult to differentiate between "pain doctors" as many list that they are board certified and may or may not have completed an ACGME recognized fellowship training program.

Consider checking to see if your pain doctor is board certified by the ACGME in Pain Medicine to ensure that you are receiving care from a doctor who has trained at the highest level available in the United States.

  • Board Certified by the American Board of Anesthesiology (ABA) in Pain Medicine OR by the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation in Pain Medicine
