About Dr. Malayil

John Paul Malayil, MD, is an ACGME board-certified interventional spine and pain management specialist at NovaSpine Pain Institute, practicing at the Sun City West and Glendale, Arizona, locations.

Originally from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Dr. Malayil was awarded a Board of Governor’s Scholarship and accepted into an accelerated Bachelor of Science and Medical School program straight out of high school. He completed his undergraduate studies at Indiana University of Pennsylvania in nearby Indiana, Pennsylvania. During his undergraduate studies, he was fortunate to study abroad in Cuernavaca, Morelos, in Mexico and become proficient in conversational Spanish.

Upon graduation from college, he obtained his medical degree from Drexel University College of Medicine from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and went on to complete his anesthesiology residency at Rutgers New Jersey Medical School in Newark, New Jersey. Due to his hard work and leadership skills, he was elected to be chief resident his final year. Dr. Malayil then completed his interventional pain management fellowship at Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center in Hershey, Pennsylvania, where he learned from some of the most well-respected leaders in the field of pain management.

Dr. Malayil brings with him to NovaSpine Pain Institute 10 years of experience and an optimistic and positive attitude to help ease patient’s fears while dealing with acute and chronic pain. He implements a patient-centered approach and utilizes the most up-to-date techniques and therapies to optimize patients for successful outcomes. He is well versed in the latest technological treatment options and believes every patient is an individual and each treatment plan is tailored to suit their specific needs.

Dr. Malayil is an active member of the American Society of Anesthesiologists, American Society of Interventional Pain Physicians, and the North American Neuromodulation Society. In his spare time, he enjoys spending time with his wife and kids, playing golf, and watching his beloved Pittsburgh sports teams.
