The Psychological Impact of Chronic Pain.

Depression- Dealing with pain day after day can lead to hopelessness and depression.  If the depression is ignored, it can magnify and make physical and emotional recovery more difficult.

  1. Anxiety and Stress- People suffering from chronic pain can become anxious, even in lower pain times, anticipating the return of the pain. This can lead to increased stress in the day to day life.

  2. Moodiness and Irritability- Inuring a chronic pain condition can lead to moodiness and irritability.  This can be seen sometimes in resentment towards others who do not have chronic pain.

  3. Decreased Cognitive Function- Daily thought process can be effected.  If anyone has had a bad headache that caused them to not be able to think clearly, this is similar to what many chronic pain patients experience daily.

  4. Insomnia and Fatigue- Chronic pain can cause difficulty sleeping due to high pain levels. This can cause the chronic pain patient to be sleep deprived which in turn can cause fatigue.
